Why the 7 Pillars?
About the Study
And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. ~ Ephesians 4:11-13
There are several good studies available today about Biblical stewardship. Most focus on the mechanics of tithing and debt elimination—very good subjects. But this study is a bit different—it tells the rest of the story.
Our desire is to address the heart issues of handling money. The Bible says that we have all sinned because we have corrupt hearts. This frequently manifests itself in addictive behaviors towards money and possessions.
As Christians, we can be masters of rationalizing why we should be rich and have many possessions. We have cultivated many methods to make dysfunctional financial behavior acceptable in today’s church. While it is not sinful to be wealthy, it is sinful to view and act as if the wealth belongs to us.
The genesis of this addiction starts with the lie that our money and possessions belong to us. We fail to acknowledge that God owns it all. If we have accepted Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, He not only owns our cash and possessions, He also owns us! Our selfish nature and the world continue to battle against us to have use think otherwise.
This study, The Seven Pillars of Biblical Stewardship, uses God’s Word to sow God’s truth into our hearts. It will not be this study itself that changes hearts, but the very Word of God.
The truths in this study are as relevant today as they were over 2,000 years ago. It is our desire to approach The Seven Pillars of Biblical Stewardship from a Bible-heavy approach.
Once we understand the ownership issue, this course explores other topics such as the purpose of giving, how much to give, who to give to, how much to save and how much is too much. We also look at important topics such as what the Bible says about investing and how to leave an inheritance for your children.
It is our prayer that, as people study and apply God’s Word to one of the most important areas of their lives, their hearts will change. Remember: Biblical stewardship is more about your heart than about your money!
