Should The Government Take Care Of The Poor?
Who should take care of the poor? The examples found in the first century church points to the family (by blood) FIRST, then the church. Let’s not allow the government to take that responsibility and honor away from us (Romans 15:26, GA 2:10, James 2:6, 1 Tim 5:4-9). When the government wants to step into that responsibility we should say NO!
I believe the government appeals to our selfish lazy sinful human nature in saying "let us take the responsibility away from you and the church...give us your money (possibly so they can take a cut and have more power over life and death)....and we will relieve you of your individual responsibility." Allowing the government to take control over our responsibilities is very dangerous.
Not only has the government (Republican or Democrat) proven that they do not do these things well, it also gives small groups of people more power than they can safely handle. Absolute power corrupts absolutely…our history in and outside of the church is full of examples. Once corruptions sets in, the money that is supposed to go to the poor starts going to support immoral activities and self edification.
Let’s ask the government to give us back the control…and then as Christians let’s get busy in taking care of our families and the people who cannot help themselves.
