Do We Live In Our Father's House?

…they found Him in the temple…And He said to them,…Do you not know that I must be about My Father’s business”? Luke 2:46-49.

As Oswald Chambers said in My Utmost for His highest: “Am I a holy, innocent child of God as a result of my identification with my Lord and Savior? Do I look at my life as being in my Father’s house? The only abiding reality is God Himself, and His order comes to me moment by moment, Am I continually in touch with the reality of God, or do I pray only when things have gone wrong -- when there is some disturbance in my life? I must learn to identify myself closely with my Lord in ways of holy fellowship and oneness that some of us have not yet even begun to learn. “…I must be about My Father’s business” –and I must learn to live every moment of my life in my Father’s house.”

How well do we mix our moment by moment existence with the reality of being in our Father’s house? We know it is easy to compartmentalize our lives. When I am with a church group, I act holy; when I am outside that influence I act….how? Maybe the more we allow our many faces to intersect in our Father’s house, the more we will reflect His Son and be about our Father’s business.

How well do we invest His resources? The Bible says He owns it all! We are mere managers. How well do our finances, politics, religion and moment by moment actions align with His business plan? To be honest with you, sometimes I wish I could just leave the house for awhile, do my own thing and then come back. At times I fool myself and think I actually did that…only to find out that I never left His house.

The more I realize I am always in His house, the more I rely on His ability to keep that truth in front of me. The resources found in His house are immense and inexhaustible, all meant to be used by us to be about His business. Do you know what your assignments are in His house?  If not, ask Him.  He will tell you; however be ready for some training -- like God says in James 1, no pain no gain!  The awesome thing about this gain is that it lasts FOREVER!
